2nd Major Course Assignment (Social Organizations).
The second major course assignment was more useful to me than the first. It made me realize that there are so many social organizations out there. I've also noticed that even though celebrities endorse in a specific organization, it doesn't mean that you HAVE to support it because these social organizations also hold fallacies. The organization uses the appeal to common belief by using celebrities. People look up to celebrities and seeing that their idol is lending a helping hand to an organization persuades people to also join not necessarily because of the organization, but because their favorite celebrity is supporting. Organizations also have an emotion to appeal to try to suck you into believing and helping them through pathos. In example, the UNICEF organization has the kids to try to convince people to help the organization by presenting their own heartbreaking life stories. And they're kids! Who can't say no to these innocent kids, right? I've learned that we can't trust all organizations, but we have to thoroughly look through them with their concealed claims, reasoning, fallacies, use of emotion to appeal, celebrity endorsement, how they advertise, and finally make a decision to accept/reject/suspend judgment.

Hey:) I really liked your post, it was very informational concerning social organizations. I know a lot of people that support an organization because their favorite celebrities support it. Sometimes, the person doesn't even look into what the organization is, he/she just supports it mainly because he/she expects the celebrity to make the right choices since they look up to that celebrity. Instead, people should look into the organization and what it has done to further its cause to see if they are a credible organization. Also, I liked how you mentioned the appeal to emotions relating to the innocent little kids. I know I cannot say no to a child that is suffering, it just breaks my heart. Overall, good job:D!
ReplyDeleteHey!! I really liked your blog!! I agree with you 100% that organizations are always trying to get you to be apart of them by using celebrities that we look up too. It's a very good strategy on their part, appealing to common belief, as I do find myself looking at organizations with more interest when my idol is promoting it. It makes me believe that since the celebrities are doing it or believing it, then it must be true and I should do it too. I also loved how you brought in the example of the organization to show how pathos is used. Your organization uses innocent kids to sway our hearts to help them, which is another good strategy on the organizations part. Overall, your post was great as you incorporated all the ideas from the paper into the blog, and I can really tell that you learned a lot from this assignment, such as how to tell if you can trust an organization or not.
